Pendapat-pendapat pakar tentang definisi frasa juga tidak jauh berbeza antara satu sama lain. Misalnya, Asmah Haji Omar menyatakan frasa adalah unit yang terletak diatas kata dan di bawah klausa. Abdullah Hassan berpendapat frasa sebagai unit yang wujud dalam sistem tatabahasa dan merupakan unit terkecil dalam sintaksis yang terletak di bawah klausa.
